Subject Specialist –Social Studies
As a Master Teachers’ Trainer the person will help develop Social Studies Curriculum and courses for DIL Primary Schools. Besides implementing and evaluating the curriculum the incumbent will be also responsible for building Primary teachers’ capacity and content knowledge by developing online, blended and face to face trainings.
Person’s specification:
The ideal candidate will have a master degree in Social studies with a sound knowledge of the subject and hands on experience in course/curriculum development, evaluation & implementation of the courses, together with a proven experience in designing & delivering trainings particularly for primary school teachers.
Job Purpose:
To lead a team of subject professionals to ensure implementation of curriculum by planning and directing all training operational and functional activities under the supervision of the training director

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
Duty 1:
Course Development – weightage: 20%
Overall responsibility of carrying out a needs analysis for identifying the gaps in performance of the teachers.
Developing the course content which meets the job performance of the teachers.
Developing relevant resources/tools for supplementing the delivery of the courses (guide books, video material, etc)
Field testing and strengthening the content and the learning tools

Duty 2: Curriculum Development – weightage: 35%
Overall responsibility of implementation of subject curriculum at program level in all directly managed projects
Developing/enhancing subject curriculum to meet DIL curriculum goals
Developing relevant resources/tools for supplementing the subject curriculum to support classroom teaching
Evaluating and refining the curriculum related to Social Studies.
Duty 3: Training – (development & implementation) weightage: 30 %
Using knowledge and understanding of relevant issues, ideas and theories for developing, implementing and managing trainings and their assessment
Developing and executing trainings using multiple strategies based on different learning styles and ability levels identified in the needs analysis
Designing trainings which meet the need of blended learning and face to face learning modes.
Keeping up to date and enhance professional knowledge and skills needed for improving performance
Ensuring proper dissemination of information between trainers, projects, school officers and staff
Coordinating between training and programs to ensure that organizational goals are met
Submitting quarterly reports on trainings, status and progress
Developing annual training and curriculum budget
Duty 4: Monitoring – weight-age: 15%
Using a variety of assessment and follow up methods before, during and after training to measure the progress the learners are making.
Applying principles of performance based assessment to track the progress made by learners.
Visiting project schools occasionally to provide feedback to principals to ensure training implementation
Creating systems for resolving issues in a timely and efficient manner while making adjustments as needed
Coaching and monitoring the development of the peer teachers.
